Melissa Schenter: Communications & Engagement Manager (Colorado)
Melissa Schenter (she/her) works as the Communications & Engagement Manager, focusing on communications and marketing for the organization, and activating spaces, planning events, and cultivating community through creative opportunities for engagement in Brighton, CO.
Melissa comes with a background in public art and festival management, and nonprofit administration. In her work, she is interested in building places which invite inclusive interactivity, and is consistently fascinated by the ways in which people claim space and time in public. Outside of her work, Melissa spends time illustrating, performing and teaching improv, hiking, playing board games, and reading sci-fi and fantasy books. Melissa earned a dual BA in Theater and Anthropology from Western Washington University, and a MA in Arts Administration from the University of Oregon. During her graduate studies, she delved into artistic ethnographic methods, performance theory, and participated in creative placemaking efforts to revitalize Downtown Eugene, OR. Her influences include: Victor Turner, Anne Bogart, Yi-Fu Tuan, Lucy Lippard, Nick Soussanis. Places that have influenced her include: Bellingham Bay (WA), the Oregon Country Fair, Winnipeg (Manitoba), the Music Box Village (New Orleans), Amsterdam, and Edinburgh.
