Melissa Schenter: Engagement Specialist (Colorado)
Melissa Schenter (she/her) works as the Engagement Specialist at the 76 Commerce Center, in Brighton, CO, focusing on activating the space, planning events, and cultivating community through creative opportunities for engagement.
Melissa comes with a background in public art and festival management, and nonprofit administration. In her work, she is interested in building places which invite inclusive interactivity, and is consistently fascinated by the ways in which people claim space and time in public. Outside of her work, Melissa spends time illustrating, performing musical improv, hiking, playing board games, and reading science fiction books and graphic novels. Melissa earned a dual BA in Theater and Anthropology from Western Washington University, and a MA in Arts Administration from the University of Oregon. During her graduate studies, she delved into artistic ethnographic methods, performance theory, and participated in creative placemaking efforts to revitalize Downtown Eugene, OR. Her influences include: Victor Turner, Anne Bogart, Yi-Fu Tuan, Lucy Lippard, Nick Soussanis. Places that have influenced her include: Bellingham Bay (WA), the Oregon Country Fair, Winnipeg (Manitoba), the Music Box Village (New Orleans), Amsterdam, and Edinburgh.
