Max Musicant

Principal and Founder

As Principal, Max (he/him) leads the placemaking practice of The Musicant Group. Under his leadership, the firm has pioneered a holistic and organic approach to the creation of place that integrates design, events, and management systems all through the lens of the user experience. Since its founding the firm has demonstrated that community and commercial interests all benefit from more humane, inviting, and lively places for people.
He received an M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.


His influences include: William H. Whyte, Christopher Alexander, Alexander Garvin, Nasim Taleb, and Jane Jacobs.


Places that have influenced him include: Bryant Park in New York City, Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, and Travers Park in Jackson Heights, Queens; Paris, Beirut, and Johannesburg.

Melissa Schenter

Communications & Engagement Manager

Melissa Schenter (she/her) works as the Communications & Engagement Manager, focusing on communications and marketing for the organization, and activating spaces, planning events, and cultivating community in Brighton, CO. Melissa comes with a background in public art and festival management, and nonprofit administration. In her work, she is interested in building places which invite inclusive interactivity, and is consistently fascinated by the ways in which people claim space and time in public.


Melissa earned BA’s in Theater and Anthropology from Western Washington University, and a MA in Arts Administration from the University of Oregon.


Her influences include: Victor Turner, Anne Bogart, Yi-Fu Tuan, Lucy Lippard, Nick Soussanis.


Places that have influenced her include: Bellingham Bay (WA), the Oregon Country Fair, Winnipeg (Manitoba), the Music Box Village (New Orleans), Amsterdam, and Edinburgh.
